چکیده

What is the smallest circular or square wall hole that a regular tetrahedron can pass? This problem was solved by Itoh–Tanoue– Zamfirescu [8]. Then, we settled the case of equilateral triangular hole in [1]. Motivated by these results, we consider the corresponding problems in higher dimensions. Among other results, we determine the minimum (n−1)-dimensional ball hole that a unit regular n-simplex can pass. The diameter of the minimum hole goes to 3 √ 2/4 as n tends to infinity.

The Dynamics of Collapsing Monopoles and Regular Black Holes

We study the formation and stability of regular black holes by employing a thin shell approximation to the dynamics of collapsing magnetic monopoles. The core deSitter region of the monopole is matched across the shell to a Reissner-Nordstrom exterior. We find static configurations which are nonsingular black holes and also oscillatory trajectories about these static points that share the same ...

Convex bodies passing through holes

For a given convex body, find a “small” wall hole through which the convex body can pass. This type of problems goes back to Zindler [14] in 1920, who considered a convex polytope which can pass through a fairly small circular holes. A related topic known as Prince Rupert’s problem can be found in [2]. Here we concentrate on the case when the convex body is a regular tetrahedron or a regular n-...

Regular Polytopes in Z

In [3], all embeddings of regular polyhedra in the three dimensional integer lattice were characterized. Here, we prove some results toward solving this problem for all higher dimensions. Similarly to [3], we consider a few special polytopes in dimension 4 that do not have analogues in higher dimensions. We then begin a classification of hypercubes, and consequently regular cross polytopes in t...

A reliable and reproducible method for establishing accurate patella drill holes for quadriceps tendon repair

BACKGROUND Various techniques for quadriceps tendon repair have been described with biomechanical studies suggesting greater failure threshold with longitudinally placed drill holes. 1 The current gold standard for repair uses 3–4 sutures 2 passed through parallel longitudinal transpatel-lar bone tunnels. We describe a simple and reproducible technique Figure 1 Acufex ® Director™ Drill Guide po...
